Know how to respond to gas leaks.
24-Hour Emergency Response
Elk River Public Utility District has trained service technicians available to assist customers with natural gas leaks, disturbed or broken gas lines, carbon monoxide calls, and other natural gas emergencies that may occur.

What to do if you smell gas:
INVESTIGATE - Follow your nose, try to locate the source of the odor. It may be something that is easily corrected, such as a pilot light that is out.
If you can't find the source or if the odor persists:
CALL - Elk River has an emergency dispatch service available 24 hours.
If the odor is strong or you hear a hissing sound:
- DO NOT OPERATE ELECTRICAL SWITCHES - This includes your telephone.
- EXTINGUISH ANY OPEN FLAME.
- EVACUATE THE BUILDING - Leave doors open.
- CALL 931-455-9311 or 931-967-2110 FROM A NEIGHBOR'S HOME or OUTSIDE FROM A CELLULAR PHONE.
A qualified technician or service crew will be dispatched immediately.
